Meet The Trainers

Martin Lacey

Hi, my name is Martin, and I am a father of two with twenty years’ experience as a workplace and sports first aid provider. Following being made redundant in September 2018 and desperate for a change of work routine, my partner introduced me to Mini First Aid. Having always enjoyed my first aid roles over the years, and wanting a new challenge, I took the plunge and joined the team. Fortunately, there was an area available in London, and so Mini First Aid North London was born. I have been up and running now since January 2019, and during this time have been lucky to have met and helped thousands of new parents, grandparents, carers, and children, not to mention getting to meet the newest members of their family! I love being able to help people feel more confident about dealing with life’s little lumps and bumps. What started off as an opportunity to run our 2-hour Baby & Child Classes has now grown to allow me to run Qualification Classes covering both Paediatric and Workplace First Aid and to teach children from as young as 3. Teaching children has become a real passion of mine and I think it is vitally important to start teaching them about First Aid from a young age. I work with a selection of schools across North London, helping them to introduce First Aid to their children. Our sessions are fun and interactive and can be enjoyed both face to face and online. I love what I do, and it is refreshing to be able to bring lifesaving skills to everyone in a friendly relaxed environment. Along with my team of highly qualified trainers, we currently cover North and East London, and all our open classes are listed on the website. If you do not see anything local to you, please feel free to get in touch.

Fran Brooman

Hello. My name is Fran. My husband Ritchie and I are proud parents of two girls, Abigail 16 and Sophie 11, together with my two Border terriers we enjoy the many benefits of living in this beautiful part of the country. I have been a registered dental nurse for over 20 years at a busy dental surgery in Wendover where I also undertook the role of being the practices first aider. Last year I qualified as a first aid instructor and in the past few months I have enjoyed training mostly adults on paediatric first aid. I presently work as a deputy manager at a busy breakfast and after school club in a local primary school. For over 10 years now I have also been a cub leader where I am passionately involved in teaching my cubs some of the many important life skills and of course to gain their first aid badges. I would like to pass on both my knowledge and my experience that I have gained over the years and now provide confident first aid in today's world.

Kamla Popat

Hi, my name is Kami and I'm a mum of one with a passion for helping new parents to feel as prepared and confident as possible. I am a work place First Aid lead, and in my current retail role I have delivered First Aid to customers in store. This has made me want to teach First Aid so that I can help others feel as confident as possible.

Katiuscia Spanu

Over the years, I have been involved in many different initiatives to assist the community. I have also led a range of workshops, including D/deaf awareness for activity providers and mental health support for D/deaf youth. It’s been a pleasure to work in different educational settings, engaging with a variety of people to share skills and knowledge. Becoming a trainer at Mini First Aid was a natural progression. It is a privilege to be part of the team, creating awareness of First Aid and empowering individuals to take the first step in difficult situations.

Lell Hawney

Hi, I'm Lell, Mummy to two little boys Fletcher & Fraser. Prior to having children, I worked in central London where I was the Workplace First Aider for two large corporate companies. However, I decided to become a First Aid Trainer after attending a Baby & Child first aid class whilst pregnant. I experienced a horrible accident with my eldest son when he was just 9mths old. Knowing First Aid enabled me to respond quickly, applying the correct methods required. Medical staff stated this has prevented my son from having long-term issues. This gave me the drive to train and pass on this valuable knowledge to other parents and carers. I look forward to seeing you in class x

Liz Edwards

Hi, I'm Liz. I have worked in the childcare industry for 12 years working with children from 6 months to 11 years old. Through this period, and from having my own 2 crazy children, I have learnt a huge amount about first aid and how important it is. I have been in many first aid situations and my first aid training gave me the confidence to deal with the injuries appropriately. I feel this is a skill that all parents should have as sometimes the unexpected will happen, and remaining calm and confident is the key. My classes are fully interactive and I will be open to answer any questions or concerns that you may have. You can either attend an open class or arrange a private class if that would make you feel more comfortable. Please contact me with your requirements and I will work out the best way forward. I look forward to seeing you at one of my classes.

Marlene Meyer

I’m pleased to be a part of this amazing team with Mini First Aid. I learnt about this through a friend of mine and it is an absolutely fantastic course to go on, it won’t let you down! I have been Cabin Crew with leading Airlines for 15 years and have gained a wealth of knowledge in dealing with minor and major incidents. This has inspired me to want to pass on that knowledge. The importance of having some basic but essential first aid skills in your life could literally save one in the future!

Nicola McKenna

Hi! My name is Nicola and I am the Mini First Aid Trainer for North London and surrounding areas. I am also a EYFS Childcare Provider and have an NVQ level 2 in Childcare. As a Mum of two I fully understand how worrying the early years can be at times as naturally we want to do everything in our power to keep our little ones safe and protected. The early years are such a precious time and I want to help empower Parents, Grandparents and Carers to gain the basic first aid knowledge, skills and confidence they need to keep children safe in an emergency situation.

Phil Nagler

My name is Phil and I am a trainer with Mini First Aid North London. I have done many jobs in my working life, but, from a healthcare perspective, I have worked as a First Aid and Welfare Officer in a large primary school and I was a Covid and Flu vaccinator in both pharmacies and mass vaccination centres. I have also been trained in Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Prevention and Grief Awareness. In my spare time, I enjoy sport, walking and listening to music, and I volunteer for two local charities - Watford and Three Rivers Trust and Talking Newspapers. I look forward to meeting you at one of our courses soon!
